SYN. Clerus bifasciatus Fab., Sp. Ins. 1, p. 202, No. 7 (1781); Mant. Ins. 1, p. 126, No. 11 (1787); Ent. Syst. 1, 1, p. 208, No. 11 (1792); Oliv. Ent. iv, 76, p. 9, pi. 1, fig. 9 (1795). Trichodes bifasciatus Fab., Syst. Eleuth. 1, p. 283, No. 3 (1801).

This species is represented by one specimen in Cabinet B, drawer 9, under label

Clerus bifasciatus Fabr. MSS’

I have compared this example with the type of bifasciatus Fab., which is in the Banks Collection (British Museum), and they closely agree.

The following are the species of Buprestidae mentioned by Fabricius, in his published works, as having been described by him from specimens in Dr Hunter's Collection:

Buprestis punctatissima Syst. Ent. p. 217, No. 5 (1775).

blanda Sp. Ins. 1, p. 276, No. 23 (1781).

fasciata Mant. Ins. 1, p. 177, No. 13 (1787).

cyanipes Ibid. p. 178, No. 30.

aurata Ibid. p. 178, No. 33.

3-punctata Ibid. p. 179, No. 34.

dorsata Ibid. p. 179, No. 38.

meditabunda Ibid. p. 183, No. 80.

ruficollis Ibid. p. 184, No. 85.

The above names are the original names as given by Fabricius, and the references are to the works in which these species were first described.
