25 - Archbishop Richard Neile's injunctions for Southwell minster, 1636

Iniunctions orders and decrees made and given the seaventh day of November one thousand six hundred thirtie six by us Richard by Gods providence Lord Archbishopp of Yorke, Primate of England and Metropolitane unto the chapter and prebendaries of the collegiate church of the blessed Virgin Mary of Southwell within the county of Nottingham and dioces of Yorke and to all other members of the said church whom they may shall concerne being of the foundation of the late king of famous memory Kinge Henrie the eight.

  • Wee doe order, inioyne, and decree that the statutes of the church concerning the prebendaries preaching in their turnes, and concerneing the divinatie lectures to be had in the collegiate church of Southwell be duely observed and put in execution.

  • We inioyne order and decree for the honour of God and his divine service and worship to be had and celebrated da[i]ly in the said collegiate church of Southwell, that the chapter and residentiaries of the said collegiate church shall forthwith provide and make up the number of the now vicars choralls to sixe, which by the statutes of the said church are daylie to officiate in the said church.

  • We finding upon examination of the state of the said church that the rents of the lands and tenements reserved upon the leases belonging the fabricke of the said church are but very smal, and that diverse and sundry leases of the lands and tenements belonging to the said fabricke have beene letten for small rents, and good round fines taken by the prebendaries and residentiaries of the said church for such leases at the time of their renewing without bestowing the said fynes upon the said fabricke by meanes whereof the said church hath run in debt for the reparation of the said fabricke; doe inioyne order and decree for the preventing of such dealeings that noe lease hereafter shalbe renewed of the lands or tenements of the fabricke of the said church, without trebling the rent of every such severall lease, for the future and better mainetenance of the fabricke, and to be onely imployed to that use, which we know may be done, and yet the severall tenants well dealt withall.
