Summary
‘Agya-e-e-e! Agyaa-e-e-e-e! poor mosquito!
Why dost thou bite me
In this unforgettable midnight?
When the great church-bells are being tolled,
To mark this historic sight,
Vision of the national flag,
The three colour flag, the black star,
Hoisted high over the new Parliament of Ghana
And the imperial flag lowered?’
‘Young Ghanaian! Young Ghanaian!
Art thou up in arms against me?
But I too celebrate this day,
No blood, no celebration for me?’
‘Young Ghanaian! Young Ghanaian!
Be cheerful, Be cheerful,
Else thou spoilest the beauty,
The beauty of this great day.’
‘Young Ghanaians! Young, young Ghanaians!
Let's praise my ancestors, the great mosquitoes,
Killed thousand invaders of West Africa,
Thereby released us
From settlers, land problem, colour bar.’
‘Praise be your ancestors, cheerful mosquito,
There is great hope for Africa.’
