Elements in History and Contemporary Society explores the value, use, discourse, and impact of history in contemporary society and culture. It draws attention to the roles played by a variety of institutions and individuals in the making and use of historical knowledge. The series is a publication of the Royal Historical Society (RHS), the UK’s foremost learned society for the promotion and support of history and historians.

The series covers a wide range of topics across geographical regions and historical periods, while addressing the following four themes:

1. Uses of the past in contemporary politics, ideology, or public policy
2. Contemporary institutions of historical knowledge
3. New technologies and historical knowledge
4. Memory, mass culture, and public opinion

Books in this Elements Series will be published Open Access on Cambridge Core - with all costs covered by the RHS - as well as in hardback and paperback print editions.
