Copying LTI and Deep Links from Higher Education from Cambridge University Press

Instructors can copy LTI specific book links from the textbook landing page on the Higher Education from Cambridge University Press. Please note that these will only be visible if the user is registered as a librarian or instructor.

Cambridge LTI Tool Provider Configuration and Web Link Configuration for Moodle

Setting Up the LTI Provider Tool

• Go to the Site administration panel
  
  

• Go to Plugins and select External Tool > 'Manage tools'
  
  

• Select 'Configure a tool manually'. This will open the External tool configuration dialog
  
  

You should configure using the following guidelines:-

• Tool name

  • Any name you wish to use to identify this tool, e.g Cambridge University Press or Cambridge Spiral

• Tool URL

  • https://cambridge.org/highereducation/lti

• Description

  • Enter anything in here to describe the integration or leave it blank

• LTI Version

  • LTI 1.0/1.1

• Consumer Key

  • The ‘key’ provided to you by Cambridge University Press

• Shared secret

  • The ‘secret’ provided to you by Cambridge University Press

• Custom parameters

  • This can be left blank

• Tool configuration usage

  • Select ‘Show as preconfigured tool when adding an external tool’

• Default launch container

  • Select ‘New window’

• Supports Deep Linking (Content-Item Message)

  • Untick this box

• Content Selection URL

  • Leave blank

• Services drop down

  • Set these to ‘Do not use this service’

• Privacy

  • Share launcher’s name with tool

    • Set to 'Always'

  • Share launcher’s email with tool

    • Set to 'Always'

  • Accept grades from this tool

    • Set as ‘As specified in Deep Linking definition or Delegate to teacher’

  • Force SSL

    • Tick this option

• Miscellaneous Section

  • Set default organisation ID as ‘Site ID’

  • Leave Organisation ID and Organisation URL empty

• Click Save changes to save your configuration.
  

Moodle web link instructions

Once the provider tool has been configured in Moodle, proceed to the course to add web links to specific content.

• Go to your course and turn on editing.

• Select the + icon > 'Add an activity to resource'

• From the available options, select 'External Tool'. This will open the 'Adding a new External tool' dialog

Configure the following items:-

• Activity name

  • Enter the name you want to be shown on the link to your students

• Preconfigured tool

  • Select the Cambridge University Press External tool from the drop down list or you can leave it selected to ‘Automatic, based on tool URL’ option if you prefer Moodle to select on your behalf.

• Tool URL

  • Add the LTI link to the title or chapter in this box. The information on how to find that LTI link for each specific book or chapter is at the top of the page.
