Summary
Die maande wat Isanusi vir Chaka bepaal het om na te dink, het verloop sonder dat hy van gedagte verander het, en hy het steeds by sy woord van vroeër gestaan. Soos ons gesê het, was daar ’n haakplek met die bruilof van Chaka, en dit was die vraag na wie die troubeeste moes gaan, aangesien dit ondenkbaar was dat hy haar sommerso soos ’n hoer sou neem. Nogtans het Chaka gereeld na Noliwa gegaan en sy het verwagtend geword. Gedurende haar swangerskap het haar liefde vir hom toegeneem, en wanneer sy hom nie gesien het nie, het sy al die tyd na hom gesmag.
Ook Chaka was baie lief vir Noliwa; ons glo as daar ooit ’n vrou was wat Chaka waarlik liefgehad het, was sy die enigste een op wie sy liefde ooit geval het. Alles wat mooi is, alles wat goed is, alles wat ’n deugdelike vrou vir haar man kon doen, het hy van Noliwa ontvang; en ofskoon hy haar verkwansel en haar moord beplan het, het sy gewete sonder ophou aan hom gevreet en hom vertel dat hy die pad van menslikheid byster geraak het; maar as gevolg van sy sug na heerskappy het hy dit onderdruk, voortgebeur en rondgeloop met die dood op sy skouers.
Aan die manier waarop Ndlebe en Malunga te werk gegaan het, het dit reeds vir hom duidelik begin word dat dit hom sonder twyfel na die heerskappy sou neem wat hy begeer; daarom het hy die klip onwillig ingesluk en sy hart sterk gehou.
Malunga sê toe vir Chaka dat die tyd wat bepaal is, reeds verloop het, en dat Isanusi dit sonder twyfel met opset uitgestel het sodat Chaka se gemoed tot bedaring kon kom. Toe sê Chaka: “Maar Isanusi se gesloer sal my in ’n verleentheid laat beland, want ek wou al lankal weer aanval; dis al lank dat ons net sit en niks doen nie, ons spiese sal oproes.”
Malunga: “Volgens die manier waarop ek gewerk het, kan jy nie aanval sonder die bloed van die een wat jy liefhet nie, maar dit is ’n saak vir Isanusi, nie vir my nie.
