Summary

Several new series of editions of Chrétien's works have appeared since 1975. Only one, the ‘Vinaver Chrétien’ (Ai), so called because of support from the Eugène Vinaver Foundation, relies on collation of all known manuscripts; but progress has been slow since the two volumes that have appeared. On this project, see the annual reports of the Foundation in BBSIA. Ac 16 and Ag use BNF fr 794 as base manuscript; Ah is more eclectic. Each provides only selected variants. The special place of BNF fr 794 is still in dispute, especially regarding corrections (see, for example, Ba22(D), Bb28, and Pa209), as it is judged defective, although the best manuscript today. Af includes not only new manuscripts reported since 1975, but also earlier identifications that are missing in the 1976 Bibliography.
