Summary

Seven things that, in my framework, African psychology is

not:

  • African psychology is not a discipline outside of psychology.

  • African psychology is not a sub-discipline of psychology.

  • African psychology is not a specific area of study, such as the study of traditional African healing practices.

  • African psychology is not only a psychology practised on Africans.

  • African psychology is not only a psychology practised by Africans.

  • African psychology is not only for Africans.

  • African psychology is not only from Africa; like Euroamerican psychology, it can be taught at European universities, can be dramatised in US television sitcoms, can be applied in therapy rooms in Australia.
