A Breda le 10. Auril.

1642.

ma femme vous baise les mains et a Mademoyselle Vostre fille.

[Sir,

The honour that you did me, when I visited you, obliges me to thank you most humbly, something that I could not do, if I were not to make good my promise by sending you the Works of the late distinguished Johnston, my great friend, which we have had printed. The esteem in which, during his life, he held your merits will serve as a guarantee to his orphan children that they may address themselves to you, in expectation of a fatherly welcome, and a more than ordinary interest, since they can plead the double title of Poetry and Medicine. If they are not welcome for not keeping up with current fashion, blame that on the engraver who has not done his duty in fashioning the title-page where the likeness of the author ought to come.
