MS s. xv4. Written by William Hampshire (or Hampshyre), of Marlow, Bucks., probably between 1475 and 1487. He has written ‘Constat Hampshyre’ at the head of a large number of pages, as well as writing his name in full on f. 56. Hampshire was a scholar at Eton 1475–1479 and at King's College, Cambridge, 1479–1486. Thomson suggests that in view of the contents, the book is more likely to have been written at Eton than at King’s. On f. 70v are the last names of several of Hampshire's contemporaries (at King's as well as at Eton). See Thomson, pp. 139–140. Thomson also notes that rather than having been at Corpus since it was written (as James suggests), the MS is more likely to have come to the College with Richard Lychefeld, who appears to have been resident in 1487. Cf. BRUC entries for these men, and [Sir] Wasey Sterry, The Eton College Register 1441–1698 (Eton, 1943).
