Off the Ringstraße, by the hotel
you died in, a screen
shows each week, a new opera.
It calls itself HD but is blurred.
It won't say what poetry makes. This is no time
like your present; this town forgot
most of your century, which killed archduke
then empire then put up plaques to
forget you, for you are
nowhere near. I know that now.
I climbed to the top of the hotel's stairs,
looked down, heard no screams, no voices.
Today there is no opera.
We love one another, we die, what laziness will save us?
What brinks?
