Summary

Chapter 1 discusses the role of clouds in balances of heat and radiation in the atmosphere. The topics covered include the typology of clouds, factors that impact on cloud formation and the main characteristics of clouds belonging to various types. We describe methods of cloud investigation and the role of cloud models. The Chapter ends with the outline of the goals and the special features of the book.
