tabvlam damus, ex qua marcvs velservs Augustanae Reip. VII. Vir, perpauca olim quae tum comparebant schidia, magno eorum applausu vulgavit quibus interiores litterae serio cordi. Integram pollicitus, si autographum aliquando in manus venisset: latebat enim, et periisse erat suspicio. Audiit fortvna obseqvens, Velserus voti damnatus est. Ad quem nuncium abrahamvs ortelivs laetitia exiliens, quod per annos amplius viginti omnibus vestigiis frustra indagasset, sibi editionis provinciam depoposcit. Et vero aequum bonum visum tanto candidato reliquos petitores concedere; primus se Velserus facilem praebuit, fidem quam publico obstrinxerat curasse interpretatus, si per Ortelium solveret. Cum homo septuagenario maior, cui plus animi plusque in rem communem studij, quam vitae superfuit, operi ad finem decurrenti immoritur. Moriens – non ille oblitus amorum, Ioanni Moreto veteri amico testamento legat, qui perficiendo, pietatem quam defuncti iudicio debuit, praestitit.
Velserus de tabulae auctore, aetate, vsu, aliis, ad schedas praefatus est, quae nobis probantur. Addimus: Auctorem Christianum fuisse, id vero ex S. Petri nomine, et iis quae de Moise Israelitisque tradidit, intelligi. Magnitudinem tabulae, praeter Occidentis imperium tum aestimari non potuisse, nunc constare hoc amplius, complexam orbem vniversum, qua illo nimirum aeuo cognitus, inter hercvlis colvmnas & alexandri aras, ab extremo Occidente in Orientis vltima. Et apparere sane omnia, nisi quod initio Columnas versus, pauxilla quaedam Britanniae, Aquitaniae, Hispaniae, Africae exciderint. Circumcirca mare ire, olim atlanticvm nomine.
