We publish reviews of books from all subfields of political science and allied disciplines, about the politics of race, ethnicity, immigration, and indigeneity, or their intersections with other axes of identity and marginalization. Our reviews are written by experts in the field, to provide scholars, teachers, students, general readers, and libraries with well-informed assessments of important new titles, for classroom adoption, research, or reference. We cordially invite authors and publishers to submit books for review, following the guidelines below.
Instructions for Authors
Should you wish to have your book considered for a JREP review, please contact your publisher or editor, and ask that they email our book review editor at the address below. Please note that our reviews are single-blind, meaning that as a book author, you will learn the name of your reviewer only when the review is published, to ensure impartial treatment for authors and objective reviews for readers. Thus, we ask that you not suggest specific reviewers for your book, as we cannot appoint reviewers based on authors’ recommendations.
Instructions for Publishers
Please do not send hard copies of books for review. Instead, please email our book review editor with specific details about new titles that you think warrant consideration by JREP. To ensure full consideration of your request, please indicate in the subject line of your message that you are inquiring about JREP book reviews. Please do not send marketing catalogs or general marketing emails. It is also a good idea to clearly identify a contact who can answer questions and expedite our review process.
Given the large number of potential review titles, the only effective way to bring your new race, ethnicity, and politics books to our attention is to put them in our hands; simply sending us your printed catalog, or a marketing email, will rarely result in a review. It is also a good idea to clearly identify a contact, perhaps an editor or marketing manager, who can answer questions and expedite our review.
Pre-publication and electronic options. We typically review final, printed volumes but will, upon request, accept electronic versions or pre-publication galleys, with the proviso that no review will be published in JREP until we have received two confirmation copies of the final printed volume, identical in every respect to the version distributed to the public. Please contact us by email (address below) if you wish to take advantage of this early-review option.
Instructions for Potential Reviewers
We invite scholars from all subfields of race, ethnicity, and politics to review books in their areas of expertise. Please send an email to jrepbooks@gmail.com, indicating your area of interest and including your vitae. Please do not volunteer to review a particular title, as our code of ethics does not allow us to accept such self-nominations. When a book in your subject area is submitted for review, we will contact you to confirm your availability and make delivery arrangements. Any book you review will be yours to keep.
