Articuli per recreationibus die dominico.

1. Forasmuch as the sabboth is ordayned as especially for the publique worship of God soe secondarily for the reliefe of nature by rest as of the body soe of the minde which is recreation: you shall enquire whether any person have taken upon them to hinder honest and seemely recreation upon Sondayes and holidayes taken in their due time and to present him or them soe offending.

2. Whether the minister doe not deferr the afternoone service unseasonably for the debarring or hindering of fit recreation? And to present them.

3. Forasmuch as divers holidayes have bene appoynted to be kept in our Church: you shall inquire whether any person hath taken upon him to prophane any holy or festivali day by working or causing his or their servants to worke upon such dayes and to present him or them.

4. Whether you know of any preacher that impugneth or inveigheth against as unlawfull the exercise of such thinges as tend to honest and fit recreations upon the sabboth or upon holidayes or doth machinate any thing to the hinderance of them. I f you know any such you are to present them.

Let these articles be enquired of amongst other in all generalis and visitations.
