Summary
And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that the remembrance of Joseph came before the word of the Lord, and Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.
(These verses follow the Hebrew.)
… But there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh, because it was brought about from before the Lord, since the time had arrived for Joseph to come out of the prison house.
Then spake the chief butler before Pharaoh, saying, ‘I do remember my faults this day:
It was brought about from before the Lord that Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, me and the chief baker:
and we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man his dream and the interpretation of his companion's dream.’
(These verses follow the Hebrew.)
And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, ‘It is not from me: it is not man that interprets dreams, but from before the Lord is given the peace of Pharaoh’.
(These verses follow the Hebrew, except that the beginning of verse 36 is made clearer: ‘And provisions will be stored in a cave in the ground, to be drawn on in the seven years of famine…’)
And Pharaoh said unto his servants, ‘Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the spirit of prophecy from before the Lord?’
