Summary

Parliament

A note in Archbishop John Alen's register states that there were to be two clergy proctors from each rural deanery or archdeaconry, which (in most cases) meant two per diocese.

The provincial council of Dublin, 1511

This council set out the salary scale for lecturers at the proposed university of Dublin. See above under 1496.

The provincial council of Cashel at Limerick, Wednesday 20 August 15111142

In this council, seventy-seven statutes were passed. Only their titles have been preserved, but from them it is possible to see that most of the canons must have been little more than repeats of those issued at the provincial council in 1453. The numbers in square brackets […], indicate the corresponding canon of the earlier series, with a question mark where exact correspondence is difficult to determine. It also seems that a number of the statutes are repeats of earlier ones in the same series, as is indicated in the brackets following the relevant titles.

The provincial council of Cashel, 1514

  • 1. Statutum est quod nulli praelati seu presbyteri civitatis et dioecesis Waterfordensis tempore celebrationis missarum induantur togis habentibus manicas amplas, more laicorum, sub poena.

  • 2. Statutum aliud est et ordinatum, quod capellani celebrantes in choro cathedralis ecclesiae divinis horis, nee incipient horas post primam, donee missa Beatae Mariae integre finita fuerit, sub poena.
