Summary

A female patient aged 69 years underwent CT scan of the neck because of swallowing difficulties. The radiological examination showed a mass located in the epiglottis, measuring 20 × 18 mm (Figure 1). The lesion extended towards the posterior pharyngeal wall and also involved the right glottic-epiglottic and pharyngo-epiglottal plicae (Figure 2). A few slightly enlarged lymph nodes (measuring less than 10 mm) were also detected in the laterocervical II and III levels. The clinical suspicion of laryngeal carcinoma prompted an incisional surgical biopsy. After the histopathologic examination, the neoplasm was radically re-excised. The patient proved HIV-negative on laboratory investigations.
