Summary

Parliament

The clergy of Armagh granted the lord lieutenant a subsidy of fifteen marks, thirteen shillings and two pence (£10/13/2). The archbishop issued a commission to Patrick O'Coyn, vicar of Kildemock, to levy 18d. per mark from every chaplain and 18d. for every carucate of land held by free tenants.

The archbishop of Armagh issued an undated commission to the dean of Drogheda and to Thomas Reynok, parish priest of Mayne, to collect the subsidy of fourteen marks, twelve shillings and ten pence (£9/9/6) voted to the lord lieutenant, John Sutton. No term date is specified.

Summons to the archbishop of Armagh dated Dublin 11 November 1429. Certificate appointing Richard White of Kilmone and William Sutton as proctors for the archbishop and Henry Cusack for the clergy inter Anglicos, dated 7 December 1429.

On 5 April 1430 the archbishop of Armagh commissioned Henry Manning, parish clerk of Dysert (Barmeath) to levy 20d. to the mark from all beneficed clergy and 20d. for every carucate tilled by free tenants in the deanery of Drogheda. This was to meet the subsidy of ten marks, eight shillings, ten and a half pence (£7/2/2) granted to Sir Thomas Strange, deputy lord lieutenant.

Royal mandate for collecting the subsidy of forty marks (£26/13/4), granted by parliament on 16 June 1431, dated at Dublin 28 June 1431. Itwas assessed as five shillings from each chaplain and five shillings from each carucate of free land. The total collected was £35/7/11. Another royal letter concerning the subsidy, same date and place, but giving the sum granted as sixteen marks six pence (£10/13/10). Probably the sum collected represents a combination of both these figures. The collectors appointed were Henry Kenfer, vicar of Molary and John Mayne, chaplain of Kilclogher (Drogheda deanery), Simon Ledwich, vicar of Drummin and William Garvey, vicar of Drumcar (Ardee deanery), Thomas Hussey, vicar of Mansfieldstown, and Henry [Saunder] of Drumiskin (Louth deanery) and William Rede and Richard [Fitz]Jone (Dundalk deanery). But a commission of 20 July 1431 names Thomas Cornewall of Tullyallen, Andrew Keppok of Dysert and Roger Gernon of Barmeath as collectors for the deanery of Drogheda; William Corre of Kildemock and Nicholas Taylor of Stabannon for Ardee and William Omongan [O'Mowan] of Kilmory and Thomas Sen of Carlingford690 for Dundalk.
