In the life of S. John Baptist we were presented with a Life of Mortification to preserv us from Sin, or at least to Disable it from hurting us. but in that of S. Peter, I shall chiefly entertain you with true Repentance, the Remedie after Sin ; and with the Mercies of God to returning Sinners. I shall not wander into the Maze of Disputation, concerning the Priority of his Person Place and Power : desiring not to interrupt the Sweet Methods of Meditation, with the Harsh Touches and Accents of Contention. but shall from the Observation of his Vertues rais matter of Imitation ; from his Fall a Preservativ against Presumption ; from his Recovery Consolation ; from his Successefull Ministery Thanksgiving ; from his Life, the Several Effects of Grace ; and from his Death see him in the Fruition of Glory.

He was a Willing Person, in the Day of Power.

He was a forward Person to com to Christ, at the very first intimation his Brother Andrew gav him of our Savior.

He was instantly Obedient to his Saviors Call.

He was a loving Apostle always busy about his Master.

He was so passionatly loving, that he could not endure to hear of his Masters Sufferings, till he was rebuked for contradicting it.

He was an Enflamed Apostle, all on fire with Divine Love : Master, whither shall we go from Thee? saith He ; Thou only hast the Words of Eternal Life.

He was so Humble, that (of all the Apostles) he would not endure that his Master should wash his feet. Till he understood, if he were not Washed he should hav no part in Him.

He was the first that confessed Christ to be the Son of the Living God.

When he acknowledged Jesus to be the Son of the Living God, his Confession included all the Mysteries of our faith.
