Summary

Tho the Scriptures among all the Apostles make least Mention of this, yet that an Apostle he was is most evident : He being always numbered among them. As you will find, Math. 10.3. Mark. 3.18. Luk. 6.14. Act. 1.13.

For the most part he was present with our Savior among all the rest.

As at His Sermon in the Mount.

When He miraculously fed the Multitude.

When He raised Lazarus.

At His last Supper.

He was with Him at his Apprehension, and fled away with the rest.

He was among them at His Resurrection.

Among them at His Ascention.

Among them at His Sending the H. Ghost.

Illuminated, Sanctified, and Strengthened as well as they.

So that he deservs our Commemoration, as being one of them, to whom we owe the Peace and Beauty of the World, the Glory of our Savior, the Light of the Gospel, the Establishment of Religion, the Quiet, and the Union of Converted Nations. We justly therfore pay the Honor due to his Memory, in our Churches Celebration of his Feast. Which must needs be an Heavenly one, since it is in Honor of his Glorious Vertues and Sufferings on Earth, and in Remembrance also of his Transmigration to Heaven.

He was sent to Preach first to the Jews. Math. 10.5. And then unto all Nations. Math. 28.19. Teaching them, and Baptizing them in the Name of the Father Son and H. Ghost. In the Execution of which Office he was so Diligent and faithfull a Minister, that he had the Honor to be one of those, who (as our Savior foretold) was Afflicted and Hated of all Nations, yea and Killed for his Names sake. Therfore upon this Day doth the Church Celebrat the Memory of his Martyrdom to Almighty God.

As he was an Apostle he had a Title of the Highest Dignity in the Church under Christ. And being of this Dignity, he had Power over unclean Spirits, and Power also to Heal Sicknesses, yea Power also to Retain and Forgiv Sins.

When the Apostles Divided the Provinces of the World, where they went to Preach the Gospel, Licaonia fell to the Lot of St Bartholomew. from thence he passed to the Hither India, from thence into Armenia the Great.
