Part of a herbal, arranged as an alphabetical index (runs P–Y). Some additions on f. 1: alongside the entry ‘palma xpi’ is added ‘ys good for a man or a woman þat is in a francy’. Further down in a different hand is ‘sylle of mastyck hole mastyck draclum muskelage plaster’. On f. 1v (headed ‘Q’) are no entries but two recipes have been added, for which see [2] and [3] below. f. 6 is headed ‘X’ and has one entry ‘erbe xpofer’; f. 6v is headed ‘Y’ but has no entries – both these leaves have then been filled up with other texts.

Memorandum ye must take of this powder euery mornyng fastyng fyrst or ye ete or drynke as myche at a tyme as wyll fyll a wall nutt shell wiþ whyte wyne or ale or brothe or eate it drye wiþ the fyrste morsselles of meate as ye use saltt and at nyght take a lyttyll whyte wyne or ale or malmesey and warme it and put in a lyttyll of thys seryppe in the glasse and drynke that to bedward.

Item use thyse herbys dayely in your pott bownd in a bundell and boyll theym wiþ your meates take borage leattyse rosemary tyme sauge issoppe pyeryall betany hertysstonge mowsere and perselly of eche a quantyte and no spyces but maces safferoun small resons and clovys and use no froyttes as appylles and nuttes and fleshe salt beff bakyn nor no new brede nor no new ale and beware of mustye brede for any thynge etcetera.
