Take copir in plate and cement hem with arsenik [.]alx vyf tartre co[.]e salt an[.] and make a paste of whites of egges and couer thy crusible with a tyle not luted and set it in þe fyr to drye and whenne the moisture is paste melte up thy copre as it is redy to be menged with som other weight of fyn siluer and for to stonde with the st[.]ling at all assa[.]es but þat he wele a litill rathir melte þanne siluer.

‘Opus vern super cuprimu’ (?). Alchemical recipe. First recipe in a collection of six, the remaining five in Latin. By a different hand from the preceding contents of the MS.

Aske ye of þe clerkys that holden hem so wise what is þe whete that moste be sawen in þe erth and whedere it is norsshed forth hote or cold for if it were in hete it sholde neuer rote wiþout colde and moystere also seye to hem alle al that euer was comen of oon but it is disseuered in thre as fadere and sone and holy goost one way þer is and no moo also loke which is þe fadere and modere of alle metallez for if þou [f. 10] drawe or take eny oþere manere þinge þan his owne kinde þou lesest al þi werk for loke whennys he commeþ and in his owne moders baly norsshe him forth and whan he is of age norssh hym forth wiþ his owne moders mylk or gif hym his owne moders mylke.

Different hand from [1]. Extract from a short alchemical tract usually attributed to Roger Bacon, see Wells Rev. 10:3805 [199c] though there the piece is described as occuring on pp. 14–18. Singer no. 210.
