Summary

Wrapped in the wind, she steps out suddenly

(as if picked out), light into light. The room

is dark, as though she were someone for whom

it had been polished, just to be

a cameo's ground; to fill the open door

behind her, where a glimmer has escaped

the frame. Could evening have been there before

she offered, at the rail to which she'd stepped,

the least bit of herself — her hands — to be

one so completely and yet lightly there

(as if the house rows gave her to the air

of heaven moved by such totality)?
